About me

I am a twitcher.  I live in Kew, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.  Birds rule my life.  I get a great deal of pleasure watching Grey Butcherbirds come to drink at the water outside my window.  But I derive even more thrills from traveling thousands of kilometres in search of an Eyrean Grasswren, and seeing it.  On the other hand, traveling thousands of kilometres and not seeing a White-throated Grasswren, is another matter entirely.

I have seen 823 species of Australian birds in the wild.  Of course, now it's down to the hard ones.

I am also a writer.  I have published short stories and articles in various newspapers and magazines and have appeared on ABC Radio National's Ockham's Razor on several occasions.  I have also written four bird books.  Two of these are available for sale here.  A third was published by the National Library of Australia in November 2012, and the fourth, Best 100 Birdwatching Sites in Australia, was published in October 2013.  Go to "Buy Books by Sue Taylor" for details.

In a previous life, I was a state public servant.  I worked in the Victorian public service for over twenty years.  Now, my husband, Roger, who was an executive at BHP, is retired and we are free to follow the birds.
